Sigurd Barrett - Tak for Livet

A heartwarming performance about finding yourself.

The theater performance Tak for livet is for adult audiences, written and performed by Sigurd Barrett. The performance is based on the biography “Sigurd, Tak for livet”, published by Politikens Forlag in November 2025. Drawing on the book, Sigurd takes us back to a childhood shaped by adoption and feelings of inferiority.

We follow Sigurd’s struggle to make a name for himself in music and his many efforts to balance an increasingly busy career with an increasingly demanding family life, first as a father of five children and later of two more.

“Tak for livet” is a performance about love, marriage, divorce, falling in love and raising children, and about Sigurd’s never-ending quest to find his biological father – and himself.

The music is composed by Sigurd Barrett and paints a musical picture of the period 1967–2026.

An emotionally raw and honest musical theater performance, in which Sigurd draws the audience into his vivid, musical storytelling.

About the book

TAK FOR LIVET tells the story of Sigurd, a familiar figure throughout Denmark, whose life came to revolve around children: the seven children he is father to and the millions of children he makes his living communicating with. It is a deeply personal account of being given up at birth, growing up with loving adoptive parents and finding his biological mother at the age of 23.

It is the story of reconciling private life and career, of growing up with faith in God but only finding faith in himself at the age of 50. And it is the story of searching for the biological father to whom he wanted to say these three words: TAK FOR LIVET.
