Route description:

It is just a few steps from the parking lot at Ekkodalshuset down into Ekkodalen, Bornholm's largest rift valley. It stretches two kilometers from end to end and is about 70 meters wide. It has been a tourist destination for as long as there have been tourists on Bornholm, and with good reason, because it is an impressive sight.

Turn left from the parking lot and follow the wide gravel path - stop along the way and test the echo. The best place to do this is at H.C. Ørsteds Kilde about 20 meters from the descent to the valley and right opposite Måneskinsklippen - a high and steep cliff that reflects the echo especially well.

You will have no doubt where it is, because here, in addition to signs, there are benches to rest on after your vocal cords have been at work.

Further on, you walk along the relatively newly constructed winding plank bridge, which takes you dry-shod over the marshy ground in the valley, and from where you are in the first place to view the “Styrtebakkerne”, the huge and steep cliffs on the opposite side of the valley. At the end of the wooden bridge, there are signs for several hiking routes – you should follow the red one, which makes a 90-degree turn to the left into the forest.

The walk back to the parking lot takes place under the treetops, and if you are quiet, it is not uncommon to see one of the forest’s many deer here – you may want to end the walk with a visit to the Ekkodalshuset restaurant or a quick cup of coffee or ice cream from the cozy kiosk next door.
