Summer evenings in Den Gamle By

Throughout July, you can explore Den Gamle By in Aarhus after work, following a day by the water, or as a prelude to a night out on the town. The museum is open every day from 10am to 9pm, and the long, light evenings are filled with shops, bustling courtyards, food, music and historic settings.

Food, music and life in the courtyards

Every Tuesday, Den Gamle By invites you to an open-air dinner at long tables in collaboration with a rotating selection of food providers from Aarhus’s food scene. Here, the flavours change from week to week, and dinner becomes part of the evening’s experience in the historic setting.

Book a table

On Thursdays, the courtyards turn into a backyard party with concerts, DJs and a summer atmosphere. The programme ranges from rave and boogie to street jazz and vinyl, so you can experience Den Gamle By in a different way than during the day.

Living history and a 1970s atmosphere

As you wander through the streets and homes, you’ll meet the town’s people, including the boatman, the barrel organ player, the farmhand and the kitchen maid. They bring history to life and turn the evening into a sensory journey through different eras.

In the 1970s quarter, the summer atmosphere continues with colourful lamps, floral camping chairs and backdoor sales from the mini-market. Here, nostalgia blends with balmy summer evenings and little tales from everyday life.

For children and families

At the Festival Square, children can let off steam on the swings and carousel or explore the Creativity Tent, where there are 1970s-themed craft activities for young and old alike. The activities are open every day from 11am to 9pm throughout July.
