Tunø, the island without cars, is a natural haven that everyone should experience. For this reason, the people of Tunø have teamed up with VisitOdder to create a fun activity for the whole family.
A great suggestion for a family excursion
Words can hardly describe how much we love Tunø. A trip to this car-free island is always recommended, but with the Tunø Treasure Hunt, the trip becomes even better for cool kids and their parents. On the Tunø ferry, you can get a treasure map in English, and when you land, you can embark on an epic hike around the island, where you'll answer questions about what you see, solve tasks, and simply enjoy the view along the way. Because the trip around Tunø may be the most beautiful hike in East Jutland... Well... It's not actually in East Jutland, but it's only an hour's sail away, so you can easily go there on a day trip.
The trip around the island is 8.3 kilometers long, but that's nothing for a cool treasure hunter like you, right? And the trip is quite safe because there are no cars on the roads. Much of the route goes through grass and nature trails, so please note that the route is not suitable for strollers.
How does the treasure hunt work exactly?
Follow these simple steps to get the medal:
- Get a free copy of the treasure map on the Tunø ferry (or print it yourself at home).
- Find all the points on the treasure map and solve the tasks.
- Deliver the treasure map at Købmandsgården.
- Receive the custom-made medal as proof of your achievement.

Tunø in the East Jutland Archipelago
Tunø is a gem in the Kattegat Sea and a perfect island getaway, whether you're on a day trip or choose to stay overnight on the island. The Tunø ferry sails from Hou in East Jutland several times a day at affordable prices.

The treasure hunt starts from the harbour, not far from where the ferry lands. Most of the hike follows the signposted route that leads around the island along the coast. Along the way, you'll pass beautiful beaches and walk on top of high cliffs with impressive views. And there's a good chance you'll spot porpoises from these cliffs (the ones that live in the sea). The trip ends in Tunø's idyllic village, where you should take note of the combined church/lighthouse. Before heading home, we recommend enjoying a meal at one of the island's eateries (don't worry, they have children's menus too). And maybe you can also squeeze in a game of mini golf at Stalden?
