The Fir Tree in Words and Paper
Get into the Christmas spirit with storyteller Ellen as she tells H.C. Andersen’s fairy tale The Fir Tree. At the craft workshop at Esbjerg Hovedbibliotek, children ages 5 and up and their accompanying adults can make a fir tree from paper and old books to take home.

On the first Saturday in December, Esbjerg Hovedbibliotek brings Christmas cheer to children and adults alike.
During the day, you can listen to storyteller Ellen tell H. C. Andersen’s fairy tale The Fir Tree, about a tree that longs to grow tall and beautiful but finds itself on a journey it never imagined.
Before or after the storytelling, you can visit the craft workshop and get help making your own fir tree to take home. The library brings a little of the forest indoors and also uses old books to create the fir trees. Perhaps your fir tree will go on a journey too.
The fir tree is celebrated as a Christmas guest through Andersen’s words and paper art, which he also loved.
For children ages 5 and up and their accompanying adults. Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Esbjerg Hovedbibliotek, Nørregade 19, Esbjerg.
