Originally, there were two springs, the Spring Spring and the Boiling Spring. People gathered here to honor and visit the two holy springs, which were known for their healing powers.

The influx of people was greatest on Midsummer's Eve at these springs, when the healing power was believed to be at its peak.

The spring block from the Spring Spring was taken down in 1908 when the Spring Spring was renovated. It can now be seen at the Sorø Museum in Sorø.

In connection with the large influx to the healing springs, a spring market developed at St. John's. Here, people would celebrate and dance.

The Baptists used the springs as a baptism site from 1853 to 1903, after which they built their own churches in the local area. The memorial stone was erected in 1982 when the Baptist congregation celebrated its 125th anniversary.
