Located in Copenhagen’s Ørestad district, Simian is an independent art centre founded and run by artists. Since opening in 2020, it has established itself as a notable presence on the Danish contemporary art scene, presenting an ambitious programme of exhibitions, concerts, talks, performances, and other cultural events by both Danish and international artists.

What makes Simian particularly distinctive is its setting. The art centre is housed in a former underground bicycle parking facility, where raw concrete surfaces, columns, and expansive open spaces create an unusual architectural framework for contemporary art. Above the exhibition space lies a lily-covered water basin, while the surrounding cityscape of metro lines, modern architecture, motorways, and shopping centres reflects the unique character of Ørestad itself.   Spanning approximately 1,300 square metres, Simian provides room for experimental and large-scale artistic projects. The artist-run structure encourages dialogue, exploration, and new perspectives, with a programme that engages with contemporary artistic and social questions through a variety of formats and collaborations.   Simian is located just steps from Ørestad Station, making it easy to reach by metro, train, or bicycle from central Copenhagen. Admission is free, and the art centre is open during exhibition periods, offering visitors an opportunity to experience contemporary art in one of the city’s most unconventional cultural spaces.   See opening hours and the current exhibition programme on Simian’s website here
