Natural surroundings by the Bidstrup Forests

Avnstrup Scout Centre offers overnight accommodation in peaceful, nature-rich surroundings in south-western Zealand – right next to the Bidstrup Forests and with direct access to well-known hiking and cycling routes. Here, you stay in the middle of an open landscape with woodland meadows, protected heathland and wide-open views, where nature is close at hand around the clock and the silence is broken only by birdsong and the wind in the treetops.

Shelters and camping area

There are 3 shelters, each accommodating up to 6 people, located in two separate areas on the edge of the approximately 70,000 m² campsite, where you will also find the Avnstrup Scout Hut.

  • 2 “South” shelters are situated on higher ground with fine views across the area and include their own fire pit, ideal for outdoor cooking and long evenings around the fire
  • 1 “North” shelter is more secluded and has no fire pit, making it suitable for a quieter and more simple overnight stay close to nature

Pitching tents on the nearby heathland is not permitted during the summer months, as the area is grazed by cattle. However, a designated area on the campsite is available where tents may be pitched.

The shelters are surrounded by woodland, meadows and open spaces and are suitable for solo travellers, families and small groups seeking a relaxed and atmospheric outdoor experience.

Access to the shelters

Overnight stays in these shelters require advance booking and payment. Reservations can easily be made online via Avnstrup Scout Centre’s booking page, which can be accessed using the ‘Book shelter’ button above.

Parking is available at the scout hut, just a few hundred metres from the shelter area. This makes access easy, even when arriving with a rucksack, cycle panniers or other equipment.

Hiking and cycling routes nearby

The shelter area is an ideal stop or starting point for active experiences in the Zealand landscape and a natural resting place for both hikers and cyclists.

  • The Skjoldung Trails pass directly through the campsite and lead you through a varied Ice Age landscape with forests, lakes and traces of cultural history
  • The Danish Pilgrimage Route also runs through the area, offering opportunities for reflection, slow travel and walking at a calm pace through nature and villages
  • For cyclists, the Ice Age Route (cycle route 44) is located approximately 300 m from the centre along Avnsøvej and offers a scenic ride through moraine landscapes and open plains
  • The Monks’ Way (cycle route 88) is located around 500 m away along Tjørnehusvej and connects the area with longer historic cycling routes across Zealand
