Visit Den Kongelige Køkkenhave at Graasten Palace and stroll along its neat paths, past herb beds, espaliered plants and rows of fruit trees.
The kitchen garden is located directly opposite Graasten Palace, the Danish Royal Family’s summer residence. It’s easy to combine your visit with a walk through Graasten Palace Gardens and a visit to the Palace Chapel.
Den Kongelige Køkkenhave throughout the year
Den Kongelige Køkkenhave is open on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM while the gardeners are at work. It is closed for the Christmas holidays from 20 December 2025 up to and including 1 January 2026.
From May to September, the garden is also accessible during the café and shop opening hours.
Admission is free. Please note that the toilets are only accessible when the café and shop are open.
Café and shop opening hours in 2026
April:
Thursday 30 April, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM.
May:
Thursday to Sunday, as well as Whit Monday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM.
June to August:
Open daily, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. Also open on Constitution Day, 5 June.
September:
Thursday to Sunday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM.
October:
From 1 to 11 October, open Thursday to Sunday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. From 12 to 18 October, open daily, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM.
Café and shop
The café serves a selection of sandwiches, cakes and coffee. Take a seat in the Winter Garden or grab a coffee to go and find a spot outside in the garden.
Table reservations are not available.
Groups of 10 or more can pre-order coffee, cake and sandwiches. Orders can be placed during opening hours by calling (+45) 24 90 08 94. Please note that tables cannot be reserved, including for groups.

Dogs
Dogs are not permitted in Den Kongelige Køkkenhave.
Parking
There is no parking at Den Kongelige Køkkenhave. Instead, you can use the car park at Slotsgade 26, 6300 Gråsten, approximately 700 metres from Den Kongelige Køkkenhave.
Coaches can use the drop-off zone on Felstedvej before continuing to the designated parking area.

About Den Kongelige Køkkenhave
Den Kongelige Køkkenhave in Gråsten is a collaboration between the Danish Slots- og Kulturstyrelsen and Sønderborg Municipality.
The Palace Gardens team maintains Den Kongelige Køkkenhave in collaboration with Væksthuset, an employment initiative run by Sønderborg Municipality. Væksthuset also operates the café and shop.
