Nylars Round Church is Bornholm's best-preserved church
Nylars Round Church is Bornholm's best-preserved round church and is certainly worth a visit.
Even more than the other churches on Bornholm, Nylars Round Church bears witness to its past as a defensive structure and is considered the best-preserved church. Nylars Round Church is believed to have been built in 1160, and the beautiful wall paintings around the central pillar depict the creation of Adam and Eve, their fall and their expulsion from Paradise.
Nylars Round Church on Bornholm is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of seafarers. Inside the church, you can also find two of Bornholm's approximately 40 runestones.
When you visit Nylars Round Church, you can see its distinctive shingled roof. The church has not always looked as it does today: the tall, pointed shingled roof was not built until the 16th century. Admission to Nylars Round Church is free, but the church is closed during religious ceremonies.
