Light in St. Bendt's Chapel
17:00-20:00 Open House at St. Bendt's Chapel. Discover the small Catholic chapel in Rudkøbing and learn about its history.
St. Bendt's Chapel is located in a converted community centre. Its consecration stems from an influx of Polish Catholics who came to work as rowers. Father Peter Schindler started a collection to raise funds to establish the Catholic Church in Rudkøbing.
Glass mosaics and frescoes
The chapel's windows were created by artist Chresten Skikkild and are considered among the most beautiful glass mosaics of their kind in Denmark. Painter Birgitte West has decorated the walls with frescoes depicting motifs such as St. Joseph and Christ with the vine.
Light in the Darkness
The event is part of the cultural weekend ‘Light in the Darkness’ held in Rudkøbing and on Strynø on Friday 6 November and across Langeland on Saturday 7 November 2026.
