Hvilende Mammut
Resting Mammoth,(HVILENDE MAMMUT) living rock sculpture- Bovin,Sven: 1969. Hjørring
Bovin’s sculptures are often inspired by the natural shapes of the rocks. Only a small amount is chiselled away before the form of the animal peers forth. The mammoth lies heavy and stable in place and leads our thoughts back to pre-historic times.
The massive, bulky body follows the rocks original contours and the mournful eye and tusks are intertwined with the mammoth's trunk reflecting a docile beast.
Sven Bovin is a master stonesmith who is able to utilise a rocks natural lines and in his animal sculptures he removes only the most necessary pieces of rock so that the stone and the sculpture maintain their close connection to each other.
