Himmerlandsstien in Viborg, bicycle and walking path

The old railway

When the railway between Viborg and Løgstør was closed, an initiative was taken to create a nature trail, Himmerlandsstien, on the 69 km old railway line. Today, Himmerlandsstien is one of Denmark's longest trail routes on a former railway line.

There are plenty of opportunities to take a rest or just enjoy the food you've brought along.

You'll pass through a scenic area where there are covered shelters along the route with barbecues, water and the opportunity to stay overnight at primitive campsites.

Along the way there will be fire pits and fire huts, toilets, packed lunches and a rest area for canoeists and kayakers.
