The hidden bridge at Nymølle Creek
A historic road box from around 1600, which was rediscovered in 2020 under the present-day road. The hidden bridge tells the story of transport and craftsmanship in Renaissance Vendsyssel – right in the middle of Hærvejen.

South of Kvaderstensbroen (Quaderstein Bridge) on Nymølle Bæk lies the hidden bridge, an old road box made of large granite stones, which was built around 1600. It served as a crossing over the wet terrain until it was covered by the new road in the mid-20th century. In 2020, the bridge was rediscovered and made visible again.
For several hundred years, the road bridge was an important crossing point for travellers and farmers. Like Kvaderstensbroen, it may have been built on the initiative of Ingeborg Skeel zu Voergård, who was responsible for many road construction projects and glassworks in the region during the Renaissance.
The hidden bridge is located in the protected nature around Nymølle Bæk – a 70-hectare area with springs, alder swamps, meadows and forests. Here, the Hærvejen follows the valley floor, and you can take both the green (3 km) and yellow (4 km) circular walks past this location.
