Galleri Sonja
Founded by Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen and Jimmy Olesen, Galleri Sonja grew out of a shared love of travelling and drawing inspiration from encounters, places, and atmospheres around the world. Their collaboration explores a universe centered on aesthetics and a quiet passion for creating places that feel alive through craft, nature, and community. Galleri Sonja is a playground under the umbrella of Sonja House. The name draws inspiration from the Danish artist Sonja Ferlov Mancoba and from the 1960s Danish television series “Sonja” from Saxogade.
Galleri Sonja is a curated universe bringing together contemporary objects rooted in craftsmanship and craft traditions. The selection spans local and international artists — from established names to emerging practices — and gathers tactile works such as ceramics, glass, textiles, and wood. Each piece is shaped by hand, carrying the trace of histore and its maker: from thought to idea, from idea to reality.
Bornholm is a place of myth, history, stone, and water. Northern Bornholm in particular feels like a hidden gem — remote from the rush of the world yet deeply connected to nature’s rhythms.
Conceived as part gallery, part archive, and part café, Galleri Sonja is a place to encounter crafted design that speaks through process, presence, and tactile sensibility. It is a space for slowing down — for observing, sensing, and experiencing. Galleri Sonja connects people to nature, to places, to craft, and to each other.
