The fire station in Rudkøbing was inaugurated on 19 November 1950 and was designed by architect Rasmus Madsen.
The tower:
The fire station's 18 metre tall tower was previously used as a lookout over the town - especially during thunderstorms, if the telephone was disconnected, firefighters were ready in the tower to be able to respond quickly in the event of a lightning strike.
The tower was also used for hanging and drying fire hoses. The outside of the tower was used for drills so the firefighters could practice climbing.
From the tower there was access to the ‘Firefighters’ Uniform Cleaning Room’.
