Dronningen
The sculpture is located at the cosy Carl C. Biehls Plads in Gråsten, where there is also a view across the lake to Graasten Palace.
H.R.H. Prince Henrik (1934-2018) first made the royal work of art Dronningen (the Queen) as a chess piece. The chess set was a gift to his son, at the time, Crown Prince Frederik at his 20´st birthday. Since 14 January 2024, King Frederik X of Denmark.
The sculpture made in bronze is two meter high and mounted on a beautiful block of granite. The royal sculpture was bought by a local initiative in Gråsten, celebrating Prince Henrik´s 80´st birthday and since given to Sønderborg Municipality as a gift.
