Join a guided Dark Sky tour to Mandø.

The journey through the Wadden Sea's tidal landscape connects stories of ancient Doggerland with the Wadden Sea of today and the starry sky above Mandø.

On this dark tidal island, we explore the night sky and experience the connection between the landscape's past and present. What you can see in the sky depends on the weather and conditions on the evening.

From the mainland to Mandø

We meet in the parking lot at Okholmvej 5, 6760 Ribe, where the guide will be waiting at the bus stop. From here, we drive together in our own cars along Låningsvejen to Mandø. This gravel road crosses the seabed, and the guides plan the crossing around the tides.

On Mandø, we park at the arrival building at Midtvej 7. From here, we walk approximately 500 meters to the western side of the island and enjoy the last light of the day with views across Koresand. Here, you also have the opportunity to hear a little about the island's history.

Before we head to the Dark Sky viewing area, you will be introduced to finding your way around the night sky using star charts.

Chairs are available at the Dark Sky viewing area, and we provide blankets or sheepskins for the chairs.

Good to know

The tour lasts approximately five hours, including travel to and from the island.
We walk approximately 1 km in total.
Restrooms are available along the way.
Bring suitable footwear, clothing for the weather and an extra warm layer.
You may also want to bring a blanket or sleeping bag.
We visit the island outside the tourist season, when the shop and café are closed. You may therefore want to bring a packed meal.
