Natura 2000 protection in the Aarhus Region
Several nature areas in the Aarhus region form part of Natura 2000, which is a European network of protected nature areas. These areas have been designated to protect specific habitat types and wild animal and plant species that are rare, threatened or characteristic of EU countries.
Natura 2000 is based on the EU’s Habitats Directive and Birds Directive, and the areas are subject to specific rules on protection and management.
