Dampskibet Skjelskør
The steamship S/S Skjelskør offers authentic heritage cruises during the summer season, giving visitors the chance to experience one of Denmark’s historic coal-fired passenger vessels on Roskilde Fjord, departing from Frederikssund Harbour. With a history spanning more than 100 years, the ship still carries passengers through the fjord’s scenic landscapes.

S/S Skjelskør was built in 1914 at J. Ring Andersen’s steel shipyard in Svendborg and operated for many years as a passenger vessel, including routes between the town of Skælskør and the surrounding islands.
Summer cruises and fjord experiences
From Frederikssund Cultural Harbour, the ship operates scheduled cruises throughout the summer months. Routes and stops vary depending on the programme. On board, passengers can see the historic steam engine and gain insight into the ship’s technology, including a visit to the boiler room.
Charter and special events
S/S Skjelskør can also be chartered for private or corporate events from mid-May to September. Charters depart from and return to Frederikssund Harbour and can be tailored to suit different groups and occasions.
Practical information
The ship has toilet facilities on board and access on the lower deck for prams, walking frames and lightweight wheelchairs, but it is not fully wheelchair accessible. Parking nearby is limited. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, as there is no onboard catering. Payment is usually made via MobilePay or in cash.
