Dalum Monastery Church is the last visible remnant of a medieval nunnery

Although the monastery buildings disappeared centuries ago, traces of the former complex can still be seen around the church. During the Middle Ages, the church formed the northern wing of a four-sided monastery where the nuns lived and worked. On the church's southern side, you can still spot marks from the former cloister that once connected the buildings.

Standing here today, it is easy to imagine daily life within the monastery more than 700 years ago. This close connection to the former nunnery is what makes Dalum Monastery Church one of Odense's most distinctive historic attractions.

Dalum Monastery Church is also well worth a visit for its architecture. The oldest sections were built in brick during the late Romanesque period, while later additions reflect the transition to Gothic architecture. Look closely and you'll notice characteristic round-arched windows, decorative brickwork and the striking tower that was added during the late Middle Ages.

Although the church has undergone several alterations over the centuries, it still retains much of its medieval character and is considered one of the most important surviving medieval churches in Odense.
