Borreby Slot – Renaissance Splendour Near Skælskør

Between the rolling fields south of Skælskør, Borreby Slot rises as one of the best-preserved Renaissance castles on Zealand. One of Denmark's Earliest Renaissance Buildings

Borreby Slot was built by Chancellor Johan Friis in 1556 and is considered one of the earliest Renaissance buildings in Denmark. The architecture blends Gothic elements with the new era's design language, and the result is a building that still impresses with its proportions and details. The two stair towers flanking the main building give the castle its recognisable silhouette, and the moat – still filled with water – reinforces the feeling of stepping into another age.

The castle is located on Borrebyvej near the village of Borreby, a few kilometres southeast of Skælskør in Slagelse Municipality.
