Activities at Gammel Estrup Danish Manor Museum

All year round there are activities for the whole family at Gammel Estrup in Djursland. Experience children's activities in all school holidays, the 18th century festival in June and Christmas for lords and servants.

During all school holidays, the activity level is turned up a notch. There are special activities for children, and the manor kitchen is open selling coffee and cake from the large wood-burning stove.

At Denmark's only 18th century festival, you can experience 150 volunteers in historical costumes who help turn the clock back 300 years to a time of nobles with high hair, impressive dresses and powdered wigs, and peasants offering goods on the market square with stalls, jokes and music.

In the month leading up to Christmas, you can see how both lords and servants made their Christmas preparations. The entire manor house is beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the manor kitchen is open with Christmas baking on sale. Every weekend, there are Christmas workshops and Christmas concerts as well as Christmas trees and apple slices for sale.

Gammel Estrup - one of Denmark's best preserved Renaissance manor houses

Gammel Estrup is beautifully situated on the hills of Djursland. Enjoy the magnificent halls where the nobility danced and partied, and explore the elegant chambers and simple rooms where the Scheel family and their servants lived their private lives for 600 years. Take a stroll in the beautiful baroque garden with carp ponds and orangeries while the children try out the new large playground.
