Follow in the footsteps of the smugglers

For centuries, Ærø has been situated in a border region, creating favourable conditions for trade and seafaring – and for smuggling.

With the special exhibition ‘The Island, the Smuggler and the Customs Officer’, the Ærø Museum invites you to experience first-hand a time when life on the coast was characterised by cunning and ingenuity. You’ll follow the stories of local smugglers, customs officers and the decisions that shaped the island.

The exhibition forms part of the Ærø Museum’s permanent collection and is included in the museum admission price.
