Østre Sømarken and Geographic Junction
Østre Sømarken and the geographic junction on Bornholm’s south coast offer a unique blend of nature, history and special experiences. Walk through dunes and coastal landscapes and visit the point where latitude and longitude meet.
Take a hike in Østre Sømarken and experience the Slusegård area and the geographical hub. The Slusegård area is a coastal grassland with low dunes, where in the Iron Age there was a large burial ground.
Øle Å runs through a shale gorge, in which you can see, among other things, the prints of small animals, graptolites. In the river valley lies a well-preserved watermill with dams from around 1800, and a trout house that was used to catch spawning trout. Read more about the Watermill at Slusegård here
Geographic hub
Close to Café Slusegård and the Watermill at Slusegård, the 55th parallel of north latitude and the 15th parallel of east longitude intersect. Here the sun is at its highest at 12 o'clock (13 in the summer).
A granite stone in the dunes marks the intersection of 55th parallel of north latitude and 15th parallel of east longitude, which is Danish Standard Time.
Østre Sømarken
In Østre Sømarken is a small fishing village, Bakkerne Havn, with, among other things, a smokehouse and fishermen's houses. The Slusegård area is protected to ensure the watermill facility and public access to the mill and the beach.
