Christians Church

Architect-designed church built in the Klint Gothic style, surrounded by an incredibly beautiful cemetery.

The church was built in 1957, designed by architects Kåre and Esben Klint in Gothic style (known as Klint Gothic). In 1973, it was expanded with a transept, choir and crypt. As Christianskirken is undecorated both inside and out, it offers a fascinating insight into how it was built, especially the arches inside the church make you want to sit down and just look up at the ceiling.

Visitors should take a stroll around the cemetery, which was built in 1941-43 according to drawings by garden architect Johannes Tholle (1891-1968), but not put into use until 1945.
The cemetery is beautifully landscaped, with a central axis from the church in the west to the east to a large granite cross and a cross-axis from north to south. The axes cross at a small pond flanked by mammoth trees.

The cemetery has a memorial grove and graves for Danes who died during World War II and a section with graves for German refugees and soldiers.

Danish high masses with communion and services in German are held, for times see the church's website.

NB. During church services, the church may be closed to the public. In addition to the regular opening hours, the church can be opened by prior arrangement.
