During the autumn half-term, children can try their hand at a very special mission at the Langelandsfort Cold War Museum: ‘Secret Agent for a Day’.

The activity can be purchased on arrival at the visitor centre and costs 30 kr. per child. Then it’s time to put on your agent’s glasses and set off on a mission in the fort’s authentic surroundings.

But what does it actually take to become a good intelligence agent?

It’s not just about secret information, hidden messages and excitement. Above all, a skilled agent must be able to observe, listen and think things through. This requires curiosity, concentration and the ability to notice the small details that others might overlook.

Can you complete the mission?

Throughout the course, the children will be challenged with various fun and engaging tasks. They’ll need to use their eyes, ears and a good dose of ingenuity as they move around the fort’s grounds and try to solve the mission’s various challenges.

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Observe and spot details that aren’t necessarily obvious
  • Listen and be aware of their surroundings
  • Think creatively and solve various tasks
  • Try their hand at life as an intelligence agent
  • Explore the fort’s extensive grounds

The activity has been designed as an active and playful experience, where children get to explore the grounds and engage several of their senses. At the same time, they gain a little insight into what intelligence work is actually all about.

Because although intelligence work might sound like something out of an action film, in reality it’s very much about people. It’s about being able to trust one another, take responsibility, work together and use one’s knowledge in a way that helps others.

A mission the whole family can join in with

‘Intelligence Agent for a Day’ is primarily designed for children, but it’s an activity the whole family can get involved in. Parents can tag along on the mission, help the children think through the tasks and perhaps discover that the children are better at spotting the small details than the adults!

The activity also offers a different way to experience Langelandsfortet. As the children complete their mission, they move through the authentic surroundings and gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Cold War.

In short: ‘Secret Agent for a Day’ is a fun, educational and unique family experience, where children can step into the role of an agent for a while – and go on a mission together.
